Rough Slope was established in 2024 to provide a facility for rehearsal or recording, mixing and mastering performances of absolutely any genre - music, spoken word, podcasts etc.
We aim to help individuals or groups - in fact, anyone who wants to record or release some audio - capture and present their sounds and performances as best they can in a relaxed, professional and friendly environment.
Rough Slope is the creation of Neil, music (especially if it has guitars in it) enthusiast, bluffing bass player and audio engineer.
Neil has a Master's Certificate in Music Production and Technology from Berklee College of Music, Boston. Does this automatically make him a good audio engineer? No, that would be silly. It does though hopefully give people who may wish to call on our services confidence that we have some idea of what we're doing.
The studio is a converted 180-year old steading, set deep in rural NW Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The studio was designed with the invaluable guidance of our friend and studio design/build legend Howard from Studio Wizard (www.studiowizard.co.uk).
The studio consists of a live room, separate control room (both acoustically-treated) plus a separate break-out room (all with connected washroom facilities). The break-out space can provide live-in accommodation if required for longer sessions, or if you need time, peace and quiet for writing etc.
Parking also available on-site, so no need to lug gear about too far.
The name 'Rough Slope' is a play on the Scottish Gaelic origins of the name of our home - the tiny village of Garmond, located some 6 miles from the historic market town of Turriff. The name is also a tip of the hat to Neil's Scottish Highland roots.
Garbh (rough, coarse or rugged) Mhonadh (high-lying moorland or hill).
